Fall and Spring Riding at Chincapin
Chincapin offers fall and spring riding lessons at its facilities in Kirtland Hills, Ohio. All lessons are conducted under the direction of Marty Toneff, Chincapin's Riding Director, and her staff of experienced, friendly instructors. During her 20-plus year tenure at Chincapin, Marty has developed a program that focuses on safety, care for the horses, and fundamentals of English riding.
Participants can choose to attend classes that run from Monday through Thursday, from 4:00 to 5:30, and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Participants are grouped based on their riding ability. Class sizes are usually between 2 to 5 participants. At Chincapin, we encourage our riders to strive for excellence in control and form, but we are not a competitive facility. We strive to conduct lessons that ensure fun and safety for the participants and the animals.
Participants receive nine lessons in hour and a half time blocks. Lessons include one half hour of ground work and one hour of mounted work. This program is offered to individuals seven years of age and older. At the end of the program, we have a friendly horse show, where all participants can show off what they have learned throughout the course of the season.
Chincapin's Equestrian Center has excellent outdoor facilities. During the fall and spring, our riders enjoy the beautiful scenery of Little Mountain. We have an extensive pasture area for our 16 horses. All horses used during our program are owned by Red Oak Camp - they are not leased. Marty and her staff know each animal's temperament and can assign riders to the horse that will best suit their needs.
For instruction, we have three large outdoor rings, numerous jumps, and a hunt field. In addition, as riders progress in ability and confidence, we have use of designated horse trails surrounding the barn.
