Riding Instruction at Camp

Riding at Chincapin Camp for girls: a RICH TRADITION

Chincapin Camp, founded in 1957, focuses on the fundamentals of English riding, emphasizing safety and horsemanship. Our dependable lesson horses, alongside experienced instructors, create a fun and positive learning environment for every camper.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider looking to hone your skills, our experienced staff make our camp the place to ride! For summer camp horseback riding, check out Chincapin Camp and learn more about spring and fall lessons below.

Chincapin offers our campers a rich tradition of love for equestrianism. Every 3rd - 7th grade girl camper attends two weekly riding lessons at Chincapin Equestrian Center. Our 1st and 2nd graders receive an introduction to the equestrianism program, visiting the barn twice weekly, with one visit including a riding experience.

We also offer an equestrian-focused summer program that gives Chincapin campers more time at the barn. They ride four days a week and spend approximately 9 to 10 hours per week at the barn. This intensive program requires a prerequisite application process. Please take a look at the information on this program below.

equestrian focused sUMMER program

Our equestrian-focused program is open to 3rd - 7th grade Chincapin campers who crave more time at the barn, visiting five days a week. These campers delve into the intricacies of horse care, tacking, and more, complemented by four riding lessons throughout each week. Beyond the barn, participants enjoy the flexibility to choose from a diverse range of activities provided by Chincapin, crafting a well-rounded and enriching camp experience.

Campers must submit an application for consideration to qualify for this program. Applicants will be required to demonstrate independence in their riding skills. This program requires a minimum attendance of three camp weeks. Applications open February 1st. Fees for this program will not be applied until your application is accepted.

After your application is accepted, this program can be added to any three (or more) weeks of our traditional Chincapin summer camp at an additional $100 per week.
